Improve Literacy for Journalists BCA Syariah Holds Financial Literacy Workshop
Bogor, Ciawi, November 22, 2024 – PT Bank BCA Syariah (BCA Syariah) in collaboration with the Sharia Economic Journalists (JES) association invited 40 national journalists to gather together in the BCA Syariah Media Workshop: Cakap Keuangan Syariah, Hidup Kian Berkah in Bogor, West Java on November 22-23, 2024.
The sharia finance workshop is a routine activity held by BCA Syariah with the aim of increasing sharia financial literacy for journalists. This activity is also part of BCA Syariah's support for the 2024 Financial Inclusion Month initiated by the Financial Services Authority (OJK).
Media Education - Member of the Sharia Supervisory Board of BCA Syariah Sutejdo Prihatono gave a presentation on an easy way to understand sharia banking contracts which was carried out on 11/22/24 in Ciawi Bogor.
BCA Syariah realizes the importance of increasing literacy and inclusion of sharia finance to encourage market share and public understanding of sharia banking. Throughout 2024, our financial education activities have reached more than 21,000 participants, consisting of students, journalists, MSME actors and the general public.
President Director of BCA Syariah Yuli Melati Suryaningrum said. "Through this training, we hope to improve the ability of journalists to convey education about sharia banking, especially the advantages of its products and services to the wider public," Yuli added.
Also present as a resource person was the Director of Sharia Ecosystem Infrastructure KNEKS Sutan Emir Hidayat who conveyed the development of the sharia banking and financial industry. The National Committee for Sharia Economics and Finance (KNEKS) welcomed the 2024 BCA Syariah media workshop. KNEKS Sharia Ecosystem Infrastructure Director Sutan Emir Hidayat explained that sharia financial literacy is very important in the development of the sharia financial industry, especially when Indonesia has great prospects for developing the sharia industry.
Based on the 2024 National Literacy and Inclusion Survey (SNLKI), the sharia financial literacy index was recorded at 39.11% and inclusion at 12.88%, these data show that public understanding and access to sharia banking products still need to be improved.
"Strengthening sharia literacy and inclusion must be carried out through collaborative and comprehensive efforts from all stakeholders including sharia financial institutions (LKS). Including journalists so that they can expand information about the benefits and access to sharia finance that is in accordance with the needs of the community," explained Sutan Emir Hidayat.
Member of the Sharia Supervisory Board of Bank BCA Syariah Sutedjo Prihatono who gave a presentation on "Easy Ways to Understand Sharia Banking Contracts". BCA Syariah also provided information on sharia bank consumer financing products delivered by the Head of the BCA Syariah Business, Retail and Consumer Work Unit Sumiar Bukit Mas Siahaan.
BCA Syariah launched the annual Journalist Writing Competition 2024 program as an effort to increase literacy through journalistic writing in print and online media. The activity was held from October 7 to November 10, 2024 with the theme "Gold, a Safe and Profitable Investment Choice". BCA Syariah together with the jury team has selected 100 articles registered from various media throughout Indonesia and obtained 4 winners with the following categories:

• Online Media Category – Feature News: Arie Lukihardianti, Republika.co.id
• Print Media Category – Hard News: Wahyu Kuncoro, Harian Bhirawa
• Print Media Category – Feature News: Hendri Nova, Harian Singgalang
“We greatly appreciate the enthusiasm of all fellow journalists in Indonesia who have participated in this activity.
