BCA Syariah Conducts Education and Pitching Competition, Encouraging Female MSME Entrepreneurs to Compete

Jakarta, March 8, 2024 - PT. Bank BCA Syariah (BCA Syariah) continues the training program for female MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) entrepreneurs through a pitching competition activity. The pitching competition aims to enhance participants' abilities in presenting business ideas through engaging presentations to attract potential investors.

The two-day event held on March 7-8, 2024, is a collaboration between BCA Syariah and SheStarts.id and is part of BCA Syariah's social activity "BCA Syariah Cares for Prosperity." This initiative is one way of implementing BCA Syariah's sustainable actions as a contributive and responsible institution, especially in improving literacy and financial inclusion in Islamic finance.

In this ongoing program, BCA Syariah selected 20 mentored MSMEs called BigSista engaged in various businesses such as culinary, beauty products, crafts, services, and waste management. Participants will receive training on refining business ideas, drafting business proposals, and presenting them in an engaging and effective manner to attract investors, thereby scaling up their businesses.

These 20 participants were chosen from 40 BigSista who previously participated in a series of bootcamp activities. Selection was based on different assessments, including the educational impact of previous BigSista activities through micro-mentoring seen through the number of education participants, quality of instruction provided, participant performance evaluations throughout the BCA Syariah MSME training program, and the social and environmental impact of participants' business activities. Micro-mentoring is educational activities facilitated by BigSista for other female MSME entrepreneurs in their respective communities based on the training they have previously received. Overall, BigSista has conducted 58 micro-mentoring activities, reaching 1,528 other female MSME entrepreneurs as education participants.

BCA Syariah's Director, Ina Widjaja, stated, "This activity aims to empower female MSME entrepreneurs with high competitiveness and resilience amidst current business challenges. The series of activities is specially designed to provide insights on marketing, branding, finance, digital marketing, and business proposal preparation."

On the first day of the pitching competition, the 20 BigSista received education on halal lifestyle and business opportunities for MSMEs from Aisha Maharani, a Halal Consultant and Founder and CEO of Halal Corner. The training session continued with guidance on creating attractive pitching proposals and presentation techniques from coach Jonathan Gultom, a mentor and practitioner in the MSME sector.

On the second day, BigSista presented their products and business proposals to the jury. Judging criteria included various aspects such as market analysis, product quality, potential profits, social and environmental impact, and overall presentation techniques to determine the best participant. The entire event encourages BigSista to hone their skills as entrepreneurs and boost their self-confidence.

"The potential of female MSME entrepreneurs in Indonesia is significant, given the broad market opportunities. We aim to inspire female MSME entrepreneurs in Indonesia to broaden their horizons, enhance their skills, continue their creative work, and not hesitate to take on leadership roles in their communities," said Ina.
