BCA Syariah Cares: Planting 1,000 Durian Seedlings in Cibulao Village, Bogor
Bogor, January 19, 2024 - PT Bank BCA Syariah (BCA Syariah) collaborated with BenihBaik.com in an environmental care initiative called "One Tree Saves the Earth." The activity involved the planting of 1,000 durian seedlings for farmers in Cibulao Village, Megamendung, Bogor, West Java.

The ceremony was marked by the symbolic tree planting carried out by BCA Syariah Corporate Secretary Nadia Amalia, Head of Forestry Service for West Java Region 1 Iding Supriatna, Head of Megamendung Village Duduh Manduh, Senior Manager of Operations at BenihBaik.com Albertus Pasca Yudawan, and representatives from the Empowerment Institution of Megamendung's community and Cibulao Village farmers. As part of the event, financial Sharia education was also provided for 36 participants, including village officials and local farmers.

The collaboration between BCA Syariah and Benihbaik.com includes planting Musang King and Bawor durian seedlings, monitoring, and replanting in case of unsuccessful growth. The durian seedlings will be planted on approximately 9.5 hectares of land with the assistance of 16 farmer groups. The One Tree Saves the Earth program is part of BCA Syariah's corporate social responsibility.
BCA Syariah Corporate Secretary Nadia Amalia stated, "The durian seedling planting activity is our commitment to making a positive contribution to the environment while empowering the local economy through the cultivation of productive plants."
Durian trees were chosen by BCA Syariah due to their benefits for environmental sustainability and their potential economic benefits for the community. Some of the benefits include reducing carbon emissions by up to 8,183 kg CO2 equivalent per 1,000 trees per year.
Durian tree roots are beneficial in strengthening soil structure and preventing erosion in the upper Ciliwung area, while durian tree litter can enrich the soil. In addition to environmental benefits, the local community can derive economic benefits from harvesting, which will be developed through business groups or village-owned enterprises (BUMDES). The durian planting is also expected to enhance the potential for agroforestry-based tourism in the Puncak area.
Head of Megamendung Village Duduh Mandu expressed hopes that the One Tree Saves the Earth activity would have a sustainable impact on reducing carbon emissions and preserving the Upper Ciliwung River area, thus boosting the economic growth of Cibulao Village residents.
In addition to planting durian seedlings, BCA Syariah has undertaken other environmental preservation activities, such as planting 1,000 mangrove seedlings with the community in the coastal area of Tambakrejo, Semarang (11/11/23), and planting potted trees (potization) along Jatinegara Timur Street, Jakarta (03/20/2023), supporting the Urban Highlight Points (PTU) program in Balimester Village.
